Chris ZIPSE Dies After Several Years of Failing Health
Died at 2:10 Yesterday Morning. To Be Buried Friday at Lawler.
Survived By Six Children

The death of Christian Franklin ZIPSE occurred at his home early Wednesday morning, January 4, 1933. All of his children were at his bedside when the end came. For several years he has been suffering of high blood pressure. It was only until two weeks ago, however, that he became seriously troubled with the ailment. Though his death was expected shortly by relatives, it was a saddening shock to his acquaintances of this community.

The deceased was born August 11, 1857 in Stephenson County, Illinois, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian ZIPSE. At the age of nineteen he was confirmed in the faith of the Lutheran church. He lived with his parents at the place of his birth until his marriage on April 13, 1882. He was married to Martha ILGEN, at Orangeville, Illinois. His wife preceded him in death eight years ago. After marriage they lived for eleven years in Jo Davis County, Illinois. They then moved to a farm near Lawler. Sixteen years ago he moved to the city of New Hampton which has since been his home.

To this union three daughters and three sons were born. They are: Mrs. E.E. BROOKS, Allison, Iowa; Mrs. N.C. HARTSON, Brownsdale, Minnesota; Mrs. Howard HAMILTON, Charles City, Iowa; Will ZIPSE, New Hampton, Iowa, George ZIPSE, Frederick, Wisconsin and Ray ZIPSE, New Hampton. Besides these he leaves to mourn his passing twenty-one grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two brothers, Al ZIPSE, of New Hampton and Louis ZIPSE of Lawler.

Chris ZIPSE was over seventy-five years old, had lead a life of toil and usefulness. He worked diligently as a farmer until he was nearly sixty years of age at which time he retired from active participation in labor. He was a worthy gentleman of splendid character and his bereaved children mourn his departure.

Services will be held at his home in this city at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon with Reverend William ENGELKE officiating. He will then be taken to the Lutheran church at Lawler. Interment will be made in the Lawler Cemetery.

The relatives and friends who mourn his death have our deepest sympathy.

HOME BEREFT BY DEATH OF MOTHER
Mrs Chris ZIPSE Died at her Home Here Friday, September 19.
Survived by Husband and Six Children.

Mrs Chris ZIPSE died at her home in New Hampton on Friday, September 19, 1924. She had been ailing for several years with diabetes but she kept up her courage and was up and around until about a week before her death when her condition became very critical, which caused her to remain in bed where death brought relief to her suffering. But the home was greatly saddened when the kind and familiar voice of mother was no longer heard. What a sacrifice a good home must make when a mother who is near and dear to all fulfills her mission on earth and is called to her home beyond. But it is an experience every home must pass thru sooner or later and those who have passed thru the ordeal and fully know the sadness of the hour, most heartily sympathize with the ZIPSE family in their sad bereavement.

Martha Ellen ILGEN was born at Dakota, Illinois on March 20, 1861. She became the wife of Chris ZIPSE on April 13, 1882, the marriage taking place at Orangeville, Illinois. They made their home at Warren, Illinois for eleven years when they came to Chickasaw County, Iowa, in the year of 1893. The family has resided in New Hampton the past eight years.

Those who are left to mourn the loss of this excellent woman are her husband and six children. The children are William ZIPSE, New Hampton; Mrs. E.E. BROOKS, Shellrock, Iowa; George ZIPSE, Frederic, Wis.; Mrs. N.C. HARTSON, Fredericksburg, Iowa; Roy ZIPSE, Lawler, Iowa and Mrs. Lonnie TONN, Charles City, Iowa. She is survived by three sisters and three brothers, viz: Mrs. Sarah FIELDS and Mrs. Anna FIELDS, both reside in Kansas; Mrs. Carrie PYLE, Freeport, Ill.; John and Dan ILGEN, Stockton, Ill. and Frank ILGEN, Sauk City, Minnesota. There are also seventeen grand-children.

The funeral took place on Sunday, September 21, 1924, from the home at 2 o'clock and later from the Community Church, Rev. James B. BIRD officiating. Burial took place at Lawler.

Mrs. ZIPSE was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and her fine, Christian spirit radiated with love and affection for her home and inspired her loved ones with right living, right thinking and good behavior. Outside her home, among her neighbors and friends, the same respect and high regard was won her by her kindly ways, which could be described in the following version taken from the bible: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
