John TRASK Newspaper: New Hampton Tribune Date: May 1930 Bassett Pioneer Died At Age 84 Years Spent 76 Years In Iowa and Lived in Deerfield Twp For About 68 Years Bassett Crn. - John TRASK, son of S.B. and Rebecca TRASK, was born at Deerfield Massachusetts, August 19, 1845, and died at this farm home, three miles northwest of Bassett, Iowa May 1, 1930, aged 84 years and 8 months and 12 days. He came to Iowa at the age of eight years and has spent 76 years in this state and came to Deerfield Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa sixty eight ago and has since that time been a resident here. He was united in marriage with Miss Lucy A. JENKINS at New Hampton, Iowa, October 15, 1868 and to this union six children were born. His wife preceded him in death, on April 19 of this year, just 13 days previous to his own departure. He leaves to mourn his departure the following children: William H. Trask of Bassett, Iowa; Ethel A., now Mrs. Oscar FREDERICI of Ionia; Hattie, now Mrs Louis NYHAN of Waterloo; and Evelyn, now Mrs. Bert MICHAEL of Charles City, Iowa, also fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two children, Emily and Charles, preceded their parents in death. Mr. TRASK was a man of sterling integrity and lived an honorable and upright life, ever taking an active part in the business of the farm until sickness and the infirmities of old age interfered. A true pioneer, he was endured to hardship and knew how to meet the varied problems of the early days on the prairie of Iowa. Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. G.A. Hess, pastor of the First Christian Church of Charles City Iowa, at the Bassett Community Church, Saturday afternoon, May 3, 1930 with interment at Rowley Hill cemetery. Lucy A. JENKINS, a daughter of John and Lydia JENKINS was born in Winneshiek County Iowa April 24, 1851 and died at her home neat Bassett, Iowa, April 18, 1930. She was united in marriage with John TRASK at New Hampton, Iowa, October 15, 1868, and to this union six children were born, two of which preceded their mother in death, Charles and Emily, by name. She is survived by her husband John TRASK and the following Children. William H., of Bassett, Ethel Ann, now Mrs. Oscar FREDERICI of Ionia, Iowa, Hattie, now Mrs. Louis NYHAN of Waterloo, Iowa, Evelyn, now Mrs. Bert MICHAEL of Charles City Iowa. She also leaves one brother, William JENKINS of Independence Iowa, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. TRASK has lived in the same community for sixty years and had a wide circle of friends who join the with the family in their great sorrow. She has lived a busy life and a useful one and was ever ready to sacrifice her own pleasures or conveniences for those she loved and the sorrow of the family becomes a community's grief because of her charity and kindness. Funeral Services were held at the Bassett Community Church Monday, April 21 at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.A.
