Aged Ionia Man Laid to Rest -
Mr. Lewis Schoenfeld died at his home near his son, July 8th - was in his 84th year.


Ionia Correspondent--
On Wednesday morning, July 8th, a his home near his son, Theodore, south of Ionia, occurred the death of Mr. Lewis SCHOENFELD, aged 83 years, 6 months and 11 days. The funeral services were held at the home on Friday at 9 o'clock and burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery.

The deceased was one of the early settlers of this county. He was a sturdy, industrious citizen and one who met with much success. He is survived by several children and other relatives.

Ludwig SCHOENFELD was born Nov 24, 1830, in the province Posen, Germany, and died at his home in Ionia July 8th, 1914, having reached the very mature age of 83 years, 7 months, and 14 days.

In 1865 he came to America with his wife and three children and settled in Wisconsin. In 1867 he came to Iowa and settled in Chickasaw County, near Ionia, where his wife died in 1879. Later he was married to Johanna RINNER, who also preceded him in death.

He was one of the early settlers of the county and experienced many trials and hardships, but these were bravely borne and he lived to see better days. He was one of the charter members of the Evangelical Association in this section of the county. He leaves to mourn his departure four sons and two daughters, twenty-five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at the home of his son and were conducted by Rev. J.V. Knoll of Alta Vista. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua.
