Endre Endreson GAARDEN Newspaper: New Hampton Gazette Date: January 25, 1906 DEATH OF ANDREW A. GORDON Pioneer of Jacksonville Township Dies From Stroke of Paralysis Last Friday at his home in Jacksonville Township occurred the death of Mr Andrew A. GORDON, aged 78 years, 11 months and 19 days. On the 9th of January Mr GORDON suffered a stroke of paralysis, and lingered in a suffering condition for eleven days before the final summons came to join his Redeemer. Though unable to move or converse, yet his mind remained clear and active till the last day. During his illness it was apparent to the watchers at this bedside that his mind was dwelling upon his religion which had been a firm faith and practice with him during his long life. He passed away in the full assurance of a blessed resurrection and the joys of eternal life. Andrew A. GORDON was born in Norway Feb 1, 1827, and in his native land was married to Miss Carrie YLVISAKER in 1853. Five years later they came to America and settled in Dane County Wis., where they lived ten years and then came to Chickasaw County and settled on the farm which continued to be his home until he died. He is survived by his aged wife and a daughter, Mrs George OTTESON. His only son, the late John A. GORDON, met death in a tragic way in June 1904, from paralysis, supposed to have resulted from a fall from a horse. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, five in the family of Mr and Mrs George OTTESON and eight in the family of his late son. This good man, whose death is so much mourned, found his life work in the cares and duties of home and in the discharging of his religious duties. He, as much or more than any other man, was the builder of the Crane Creek congregation of the United Norwegian Lutheran Church. He was always foremost in every good work and as a neighbor he had acted the good Samaritan in innumerable instances. He never refused help to one in distress. He was fortunate in his finances and left a large property. It may truly be said of him, he was one of God’s noblemen, walking this earthly stage uprightly before God and man, and quitting it in firm hope of the rewards which are promised those who are faithful unto death. The funeral was held from the Crane Creek Church on Monday, and all that was mortal of the patriarch was laid to rest in the parish cemetery. May he rest in peace. Contributed By: James H.
