John Nicholas ESCHWEILER Newspaper: Riceville IA Recorder Date: February 1923 John Nicholas ESCHWEILER was born in Euskirchen, Germany June 21,1853. At the age of 12, he came with his parents to America, and settled in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In 1882, he moved to Mitchell County, Iowa, where he resided until the time of his death which occurred Jan 27, 1923, aged 70 years, 7 months and 6 days. In 1877, he was united in marriage to Maggie GERHARTZ, at Stacyville, Iowa. To this union ten children were born, two of whom died in infancy, and Mrs. Katie DREIS, who preceded him in death, Oct 24,1922. Those who are left to mourn his passing beside his wife are: Mrs. Clara STOUTH, of Faribault, MN; John C. of New Hampton, IA; Joseph of Bonair, Mrs. Lizzie CLEWETT, Will, Herbert and Agatha all of Riceville, three brothers, Joe of New Haven, Henry of Elma, Peter of Home City, Kansas and eight grand children, beside a host of friends. Mr. ESCHWEILER had been a patient sufferer for some months and on January 27,1923, God called him to his eternal reward. He had a cheerful disposition and was always glad to meet his neighbors and friends who with the family will miss him. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church, January 29, conducted by Fr. J.J. O’BRIEN and burial was made in Calvary Cemetery. Contributors notes: |
