This structure was built in 1851 by John BIRD, a pioneer from New Hampshire. This home witnessed the first court trial in
Chickasaw County; the first church services; and also the first individual services for the Congregational and Methodist denominations
in the county. John BIRD was the first sheriff of Chickasaw County, being an appointee under the title of "Organizing Sheriff",
as well as playing a key role in organizing Chickasaw County. This home was torn down in March 1956 to make room
for the north curve of state highway 346. SOURCES: The Nashua Reporter and Weekly Post, Thursday, 15 Mar 1956 Original photographic negative from the Avice McGregor Collection, at the Nashua Public Library Contributed by Mr J. Adelmund |
