Since 1976 Chickasaw County Genealogical Society members have diligently and carefully
transcribed Chickasaw County records, saved and sorted newspapers, walked cemeteries and published data. Today
much of this work is preserved on several hundred reels of microfilm. This is in direct support
of two of our Society's goals, that of collection and preservation. We think it is important for everyone to understand that these approximately 300 rolls of microfilm in our CCGS Collection represent thousands of labor hours and also thousands of dollars to produce. I am taking the liberty here to insert a reminder to those genealogists who continue to believe there should be a "free lunch". The truth is that every so-called "free lunch" you partake of has been paid for by another unseen, unknown, and generous person(s). We are proud of what our Society has accomplished, these many many reels of microfilm didn't just materialize out of thin air; lots of labor and dollars were required to make it happen. Our microfilm collection preserves the fruit of that labor. We have provided copies of our microfilms to State level facilities/libraries so that by using interlibrary loan procedures, distant researchers may still delve into Chickasaw County resources. Your local librarian can acquire a loaned copy of Chickasaw County microfilms via the interlibrary loan system and you may then view that film right in your own local library. Requests are handled electronically, enabling users to get the materials they need much more quickly. ![]()
