Research Hints

The possible answers to the question on if the person was a "survivor of the Union or Confederate Army or Navy" were:

  • "UA" for Union Army
  • "UN" for Union Navy
  • "CA" for Confederate Army
  • "CN" for Confederate Navy

The possible answers to the question on citizenship/naturalization status, of foreign born residents were:

  • "Al" for alien
  • "Pa" for "first papers"
  • "Na" for naturalized
